Opening Comments by Marilyn Schanze "Kross Exhibition"
March 19, 2008
Fortchurch Museum
Curacao, Netherlands Antilles
Good evening... Tonight's event explores the theme and imagery of the cross, one of the most widely recognized symbols in the world. This collection is the result of the music and inspiration opera singer Tania Kross has shared with artist Jolanta Pawlak. As the two women developed a friendship, Jolanta began creating jewelry designs for Tania's performances and major appearances. They started to explore the idea of an actual "Kross Collection" named for Tania. Millicent Smeets-Muskus also contributed inspiration with her own personal global cross collection and enthusiastically embraced having this exhibition of specially designed crosses in the Fortchurch Museum. The merger of these creative thoughts, ideas, and energy has resulted in this stunning collection that reflects the unique beauty of Curacao and now bears the name "Kross Collection".
A percentage from the sale of all .Krosses. sold during this event will benefit the Fortchurch Museum, which preserves the Christian heritage of our island. Tania's personal designer Wendell Elisabeth has created the perfect backdrop for the jewelry this evening by designing Tania.s gown as well as the outfits for the staff of Maravia Gallery. Additional models are wearing the most dramatic "Krosses", and you are invited to ask them about their jewelry. You will also find more "Kross" designs in silver, gold and printed on fine birch wood on display upstairs in the Museum. So now let's open the event... with a very special performance.
Tonight we are truly blessed to have Tania Kross here to delight us with her fabulous mezzo soprano voice. Let us welcome our star of the evening Tania Kross.
